I Have Always Wanted To Have A Poem Written About Me
like the way I write about my gorgeous friends, their
presence lighting up my life like a neon sign board on a windy
highway with no other cars around. Perhaps it could have
been about the way I always choose to sit by the window
in public buses as it shakes and stirs like a Giant Cosmo— maybe I
could be The Cointreau, the second-lead, the co-star,
if not the protagonist. I could live with it. I don’t need the spotlight,
or even a happy ending. I would just like to be heard sometimes.
The Poem would have seen me & understood me all at once, unlike
all the lovers who have only chosen to do one thing at a time,
as if I were a vintage artifact at a museum, or the subtext in a dialogue.
It would be my turn with the reader. For once, I wouldn’t be lonely.
